Tennis superstar Serena Williams is adding another team ownership to her portfolio.

On Monday (March 3), the Toronto Tempo, the WNBA's newest franchise, announced that the 23-time Grand Slam winner was joining its ownership group.

"New court, new game 🏀 We’re thrilled to announce that @SerenaWilliams – legendary tennis pro – has joined the team as the newest owner of the Toronto Tempo," the organization posted on social media.

The Toronto Tempo ownership group is led by Kilmer Sports Ventures and chairman Larry Tanenbaum. Under the leadership of team president Teresa Resch, the Tempo will be the 15th franchise to join the WNBA, with their first season tipping off in 2026. Their expansion draft is set to be held following the 2025 season.

"This moment is not just about basketball; it is about showcasing the true value and potential of female athletes -- I have always said that women's sports are an incredible investment opportunity," Williams said in a statement. "I am excited to partner with Larry [Tanenbaum] and all of Canada in creating this new WNBA franchise and legacy."

The Tempo said Williams will contribute to designing team jerseys and creating merchandise collaborations.

"Serena Williams is an icon, a role model and a force for change in the world," Tanenbaum said. "She's earned every bit of her incredible success with hard work, tenacity, and determination in the face of countless challenges. She exemplifies the very best of what the Tempo stand for -- we couldn't be more honored to have Serena in our court."

The Tempo will add to William's portfolio of team ownerships, which includes stakes in the Miami Dolphins, Angel City FC, and Los Angeles Golf Club.
