An Ohio mother is facing charges after the body of her eight-year-old son was found in an attic.

According to ABC6, Lashanda Wilder, 32, was charged with murder in connection to the death of her son Martonio Wilder, 8, whose body was found in the attic of his family home in Columbus on Friday (June 28).

The mother had reportedly called the police to her home, where she and her girlfriend, Johnna Lowe, told police that they hadn't seen Martonio since the previous night.

Authorities issued a missing person advisory for the eight-year-old boy and conducted a K-9 search around the neighborhood. During this time, Lashanda and Lowe allegedly fled with Martonio's two brothers and didn't tell police their whereabouts.

The pair reportedly turned themselves in on Saturday (June 29), after police found Martonio's body.

According to court records, Martonio died from "deep neck compression."

Chief Elaine Bryant said the other two children were found in safe condition. “King Wilder, three years old and Michael Simon, nine years old, were recovered safely at the home of a family member," Bryant said in a statement.

Both Lashanda and Lowe are also facing charges of obstructing justice. They are set to appear in Franklin County Municipal Court on Monday (July 1).
