NBA Tells Teams To Be 'Ready' For The Impact Of The Chauvin Trial Verdict

There have been few trials in American history that have captured the nation's attention quite like the State v. Chauvin trial. This week, attorneys Eric Nelson and Jerry Blackwell will present their closing arguments. Then, the jury will make a decision that will alter the state of the nation. No corner of the map will be freed from the aftermath of this trial and that includes the National Basketball Association. When Jacob Blake Jr. was shot and paralyzed, four teams decided not to play in scheduled playoff games. Earlier this month, the Minnesota Timberwolves postponed their game against the Brooklyn Nets after Daunte Wright was killed. Now, league officials are telling teams to prepare for the fallout from this trial.

"The NBA has instructed teams to be vigilant about the impact of a verdict in the Derek Chauvin trial for the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis this week, including the possibility of game postponements," NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski tweeted.

This trial could also impact Major League Baseball. Like the Timberwolves, the Minnesota Twins also postponed a game after the death of Daunte Wright. The league also postponed games in August when the NBA decided to postpone playoff matchups due to the Jacob Blake Jr. shooting.

Elsewhere, Major League Soccer has also recently kicked off its season. Much like the MLB, the MLS postponed its games in wake of the Jacob Blake Jr. However, the two leagues have not issued a report or a statement regarding the matter. Adding on, the National Hockey League has not issued a statement regarding the trial.

A verdict in the State v. Chauvin trial could be reached anytime between Wednesday and Friday. Given the magnitude of the trial, it could take until net week for a verdict to be reached.
